Buying freezers

The temperature spread in this range is wider than anywhere else in the department. Sterling Pro and Vestfrost chest freezers start at a few hundred pounds, Liebherr uprights run from solid single doors to 1,361 litre ProfiLine double door cabinets, and Vestfrost and Labcold low-temperature models hold minus 45, minus 60, even minus 80 for lab-grade work.

Start with what you are actually freezing. A chest holds temperature through door-open abuse and power cuts far better than an upright, but you dig for stock; an upright gives you shelf order and stock rotation at a glance. If you keep ice cream, game or sous-vide stock long term, the low-temperature Vestfrost cabinets earn their premium.
